Bienvenido a Mexico!
Mexico is the third country I have visited and it’s soooo beautiful. My boyfriend and I planned this trip to celebrate my birthday. I had initially thought we would be directly in Cancun, but our resort was in Playa Del Carmen, which is about 30 minutes away from Cancun. Since we weren’t in Cancun our experience was a little different.
When we first arrived at the airport we had to wait about 20 minutes for our taxi, and when we were finally on our way to the resort the ride was about 30 minutes! Not to mention that the drivers in Mexico drive sooooo fast. I would suggest buying a round trip taxi before your trip because they will charge you at least $55. Most of the resorts are very far from the airport. Once we finally arrived at our resort we immediately changed our clothes to walk around and, most importantly, to get drinks. Our resort was all inclusive, so all the free drinks you want and who doesn’t love that right? We were a little disappointed with the food because it wasn’t that good and none of the restaurants were Mexican. Who doesn’t want to eat Mexican food in Mexico? We did eat at one of the restaurants on the resort, Italian food, which was really good. Other than the food the resort was really nice and the beach is beautiful.
Since there were travel alerts in this area due to crime we didn’t want to venture out on our own so we bought a trip to see an ancient Mayan city in Tulum, Mexico. I believe that when you visit another country you should do something to learn a little about the history of the country and the people, plus it’s really cool. When we arrived we were basically walking through the jungle to get to the ancient city and when we got to the city we had to climb through these small entrances. The Mayans built a wall around their city to protect them from enemies. Tulum actually means wall. Once you get inside there are various buildings and they tell you which each one was used for. The main building in the city has 4 windows that represent each season and the Mayans knew when the season would change when the sun would shine directly through a window. The site of the city is also where the second largest coral reef in the world is located, which is something I never knew. Once our tour was over we got to hang out at the beach for a hour, then we went back to the shops. The ruin we visited was just one of three that they have in Mexico.
For the rest of our trip we just relaxed and laid out on the beach. The part of the beach our hotel was on had a cliff that they made and that was one of my favorite parts about this hotel. We did have to walk down a little further to get into the water because the water directly in front of our hotel was too rocky. The beach our hotel was on stretched out for miles. It was also an adults-only hotel, which I love because I don't like to be around kids while I'm on vacation (that's just my preference). As I mentioned earlier our experience in Playa del Carmen was different because there was no spring breakers in our area at all. My boyfriend and I were actually the youngest at our resort. The hotel also had something going on every day and every night, so you won't get bored. They also had 2 other hotels that are apart of the same chain right next to ours and we could go over there too. So for the most part I enjoyed my vacation and I will definitely love to visit Mexico again.
